Nrityalaya - School for Classical Dance and Music, Kozhikode

It is 18 years since we moved into our Chalappuram premises and 36 years since the school was founded by Smt Kalamandalam Saraswathy. We celebrate the occasion on November 15th 2008 at Jubilee Hall , Tali, Calicut. The Chief Guest is Kalaimamani Smt. Radha (Bharatanatyam exponent) and Guest of Honour is Sri M.P.S.Namboodiri, Dean, Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University.

We also plan to give out Natya Visharada diploma certificates to students who have completed ten years or more in Nrityalaya. The formal function begins at 5:30 p.m. and students will give a performance at 7 p.m. All are welcome !

Vijayadasami was celebrated at Nrityalaya on 9th October. The day began with the puja at 6 a.m. The students and teachers performed the “vidyarambham” and new admissions commenced at 10 a.m. Around hundred new students have now become members of our family and to welcome them a chamber concert was organised in the premises at 5 p.m. in the evening. “Samarpanam” was an offering of music and dance by 30 singers and 70 dancers.

The arangetram or debut performance of the Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music students will be held on September 28th, 2008, at Sooryakanthi Kalyana Mandapam, Tali,Kozhikode.

The music students will give their performance at 5:30 p.m. and the dance students will begin at 7 p.m.

Anjana Ashokan and Aparna Ashokan, students of Nrityalaya, will give a Bharatanatyam performance at Thrikkakkara Mahakshethram, Thrikkakkara, Ernakulam on September 7th 2008 at 9 p.m.

This is in connection with the Onam Celebrations of the temple whose deity is Vamana Moorthy, Lord Vishnu in the form of a dwarf.

Anjana is a second year MBBS student of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Aparna is class nine student of Providence Girls High School.

Aswathy Srikanth will perform under the auspices of SAMUDHAAYA FOUNDATION, Chennai, on August 23rd 2008. The show is part of a fund raising event for the foundation which plans to help paediatric heart patients as part of ist charitable activities for the year 2008.

SAMUDHAAYA is headed by Smt. Sudha Raghunathan, renowned Carnatic singer and philanthropist. Aswathy will be accompanied by Nikhil Raveendran, senior disciple and trainee faculty of Nrityalaya.

Grand Bharatanatyam recital by Ms. Yuwa Yokota (Japan), under the auspices of Sree Sathguru Sangeetha Sabha, Kozhikode.

Ms. Yuwa Yokota is a disciple of N.Srikanth and has been training in Bharatanatyam for the last 10 years.
